Common Questions About Our Tutoring

Which areas do you service?
Catalyst services most families within a 15 mile radius of Pasadena. If you are unsure whether you live within this boundary, please Contact Us. Occasionally, we make exceptions!
What is the key to success?
All of our tutors are committed to being Life-Long Learners. Education doesn’t stop in the classroom, and we want to motivate your child to understand this principle, and instill them with the qualities and motivation to work hard and grow for the rest of their lives. We believe this is the key to success in everything in life, and it is important for students to feel the same sense of accomplishment outside of the classroom that we want them to feel inside the classroom.
How do you motivate students?
We feel that it is crucial for your child to enjoy working with his or her tutor. A strong connection with a tutor motivates students to perform better, pay more attention, and work harder to achieve the best results possible. In addition to having our tutors connect with your child, it is just as important that each tutor behaves as a role model. This is why all of our tutors continue to demonstrate the same values we wish to see your child develop as well.
What is the typical tutoring schedule?
Our typical tutoring hours begin at the end of the school day and continue throughout the evening. We have appointment times available from 3:15 until 8:15, Monday through Thursday, and each appointment time is at least 1 hour, or we can schedule longer appointments as needed. We also have additional times available on Fridays and Saturdays, by special request. We understand that some families need more flexible scheduling (home school families, for example), and we are happy accommodate! So, if for any reason, another time is most convenient, please Contact Us and we will do our best to work with your family’s schedule.

We also want to give you the flexibility to create a schedule suitable to your child’s needs. You can ensure that your child is receiving the continual encouragement they need by setting up a consistent weekly schedule with one of our tutors, or by choosing the option to request only occasional sessions, when your child’s schedule permits. Sometimes, a student may have an important test or assignment before their scheduled tutoring session, so we allow our families the flexibility to be able to reschedule appointments as needed.

What is the risk?
We are certain that you will be satisfied with our highly qualified tutors, but there is no risk! If for any reason, there is a problem with one of our tutors, or if your child did not find the session helpful, you can notify us within 48 hours, and we will do our best to ensure your satisfaction, even if that means that you’re not charged for the session!
